Bridget Jones: The Backlash
I remember when Bridget Jones first appeared at the movies – she was an absolute icon for all single women. We fell in love with her, related to her and most importantly shared in the joys and turmoils of her relationships.
But what did she end up doing – bloody went and got herself married and that’s when all the single girls in the world fell out of love with her! She gave us all false hopes and now, there is quite the backlash.
Last night on Australia’s ‘A Current Affair’ they looked at Bridget Jones and Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw. The report blamed them for giving single women of today the idea that yes, love troubles do occur in life but at the end it’s all pink roses and wedding bells! Crap!
Unfortuantely, we don’t all have the luck of finding the man of our dreams and getting hitched! And with the current man drought (yes ladies do believe what the experts say), it is getting harder and harder to even meet an eligible single man.
According to the Bureau of Statistics there are 98 blokes to every chick – therefore there are 14,000 more single women then men in their 30s and if you’re in your 40’s good luck, there are 16,000 more single women then men! God help us! No wonder there’s a backlash against our icons Bridget and Carrie!
So what do women do? What happens if we do end up old spinsters for the rest of our lives? Will we see fiery competition in society now of women trying to snare the very few single men left???
Or maybe women are to blame? Perhaps we’re not prioritising men as highly as we use – careers and having a social life is coming first!
Is true love dead for some of us?

I did read somewhere, think it was the Sydney Morning Herald that there is going to be a big increase in the number of eligible men in their 30's in the next 10 to 20 years.

Easier said than done I know, but I genuinely believe there is someone special out there for everyone, however corny that sentiment may be
