Date Gal - Love, Sex and Relationships

How old is too old - does age really matter in relationships?

My cousin got married yesterday to a woman 2 years his senior. One of my uncles married a woman 14 years his junior and another cousin of mine lives with a man 15 years her senior.

Personally, I don't do age gaps. 2-3 years is the most I'm comfortable with, either way (older or younger) however at my cousin's wedding yesterday I met one of his friends. He's the loveliest guy I have met in a very long time and he made it more than clear to me that he was in to me as well. Only problem is he's 10 years my senior.

Does age really matter?? Nowhere is it written that the love of your life/soulmate/person you want to spend the rest of your life with must be born in the same year as you. (Which, I must say, is a damn good thing otherwise I certainly wouldn't have been born as there's a minor age gap between my parents as well!)

But how old is too old? Does age make a difference? I often wonder what an older woman/man would want with someone so much younger than them, yet there are so many successful relationships out there where there is large age gap between both people.

As long as you're happy and comfortable with who you are and who you're with, I don't think age should make a difference. Yet there seems to be a stigma attached to relationships with large age gaps, and I can't help but wonder if there is a valid reason for that...?

Stigmas be damned. One might say that an age gap of x number of years is too much, but we're all different and to make a statement like that is extremely prejudicial.

If it works for the people involved, that's all that matters.

Apologies if I caused offense Marie Anne.

I wasn't meaning to be prejudicial; I did state that I don't think age should make a difference. Personally I don't care about the age gaps in other people's relationships, I was merely saying that they don't necessarily work for me. I simply meant my last sentence to be thought-provoking.

That being said, the guy in question has really caught my fancy so I'll see how things go

Oh I wasn't referring to you in my comment. You said that there seems to be a stigma and that's what my comment was directed at - other people's reactions.

Sorry for the confusion, but you said nothing to lead me to think you were being prejudicial or judgmental.

haha no worries! So we're both on the same page then - whatever floats people's boats!
